Common Core is topic at Chamber of Commerce
ATWATER The Atwater Chamber of Commerce meeting will be Feb. 12 at 8 a.m. at the Atwater Elementary School District boardroom. Lynn Lysko, assistant superintendent of educational services, will talk aout the Common Core teaching method and Local Control Accountability Plan, which districts must adopt as part of the new state funding guidelines. Open to the public.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo at Merced Theatre

Names needed for Old Timers honor
The Merced County Old Timers Association is looking for individuals to honor at the 72nd annual Old Timers Luncheon. The Old Timers committee was formed in 1942 to honor individuals 85 or older who have lived in Merced County for 50 years or longer. This year’s luncheon will be held April 27 at the Italo-American Lodge in Merced. Honorees receive a free luncheon and are presented with certificates and proclamations from the Merced County Board of Supervisors and others. Rotary shrimp feed set for March 15
Merced Sunrise Rotary will have an all-you-can-eat shrimp feed March 15 at the Merced Fairgrounds Pavilion and Half Dome buildings. Everyone is invited to attend. No-host social hour at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7. $40 ticket includes a $25 donation to support the many service projects of the Merced Sunrise Rotary. For more information, call (209) 723-1691.
Kite Festival coming
LIVINGSTON The Kite Festival will be April 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Livingston Middle School, 101 F St. Free. Includes pie-eating contests, face painting and bounce houses, craft and kite vendor booths. The first 500 children get a free kite. Proceeds to benefit youth sports.
