Le Grand Garden Club event in Chowchilla

Shepherd of the Valley May Friendship Day

May Friendship Day will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 2 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Cancer Wellness yard sale

The 4th annual Cancer Wellness fundraiser yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, off Bellevue Road and Sixth Street. Proceeds will benefit free restorative wellness programs for cancer survivors. Donations will be accepted and there will be a large variety of items for sale. Youth Sports Parade

The Merced Golden Lions will hold their 15th annual Youth Sports Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday starting at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and O St. Opening games will follow at the Merced Youth Sports Complex on V Street and Wardrobe Ave. There will be earlier entertainment at Bob Hart Square with dance groups starting at 8:45 a.m.

Seeking tennis players

The United States Tennis Association and Atwater Police Activities League Spring Junior League seeks team tennis players ages 6 to 11. Games will be on Saturdays starting on May 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Buhach Colony tennis court, 1800 Buhach Road. The cost is $17 and includes T-shirts, awards and prizes for all. Register at the Atwater Community Center, 8 a.m. to 6 pm. Monday through Thursday, 750 Bellevue Road.

Challenges of Leadership

Merced College is offering a two-day workshop called Challenges of Leadership from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 1 and 8 at the College Business Resource Center, 630 W. 19th St. The cost is $23 and earns a half unit of college credit. Call (209) 386-6733 for more information.
