‘Hot August Nights’

The female illusion and variety show “Hot August Nights” will be held Saturday in Merced.

The event will be hosted by performers Tequila St. James and Destiny Diamond. Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. and the show following at 7 p.m. at the Merced Women’s Club House, 707 W. 22nd St. Tickets are $15, $10 for students with ID.

Out of The Darkness benefit

A benefit show for Out of the Darkness is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the alley on 181/2 Street in downtown Merced, behind the Merced Multicultural Arts Center. The proceeds will go toward suicide prevention. Scheduled performers include solo artist Alison Rush, Vespers (alternative), That Guy (hip hop), DSC (hip hop), Wormholes (alternative) and No Class (punk). The event will also include a raffle. Johnny Rocket and the Thrust

Rock band Johnny Rocket and the Thrust are scheduled to perform 7 p.m. Saturday at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. Influenced by James Brown, Tower of Power and Santana, Johnny Rocket and the Thrust will play blues, oldies rock and roll, classic rock and soul. The group features Keith Crossan (formerly with the Tommy Castro Band). Tickets can be purchased in advance at the MMAC or at the door. Go to www.artsmerced.org for more info.

Fun events at Kewl Kats

Kewl Kats has a variety of events scheduled. Karaoke happens at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 p.m. Friday DJ/dancing; 9 p.m. Saturday live music. Kewl Kats is at 1111 Motel Drive in Merced. For details, call (209) 383-5395.

Arts Center exhibit

“Range: County Artists Across the Spectrum” runsthrough Sept. 19 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. in downtown Merced. The exhibit includes works by Natalie Porter, CHAA, the Enrichment Center and the 2014 Curator’s Award winners. For more information, visit artsmerced.org.

Live music happens at the Star Club from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, 1331 W. Main St., Merced. There is no cover charge. You must be at least 21 to enter.

A jam session is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Star Club, 1331 W. Main St., Merced.

Melissa Manchester in Turlock

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Melissa Manchester returns to the Turlock Community Theatre on Aug. 16.

Manchester won the Grammy Award for best female pop vocal performance in 1983 for “You Should Hear How She Talks About You.” Her career has spanned music and film and she even scored two Academy Award nominations in 1980 the same year for Best Song. Her hits span those Oscar-nominated songs – “The Promise” and “Through The Eyes of Love” – as well as chart hits “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” “Midnight Blue” and “Walk on By.”

Her Aug. 16 show in Turlock begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $38-$58. Discounted Dealsaver tickets are also available starting at $28. For more call (209) 668-1169.

Foreverland in Merced

Foreverland, a 14-piece tribute band dedicated to the music of Michael Jackson, is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets went on sale Tuesday.
