Open Cockpit Day
Open Cockpit Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Castle Air Museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for ages 6-17 and free for children younger than 6 and active military personnel. SPCA training rescheduled
A Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals volunteer orientation and training session scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at Merced SPCA, 1021 E. Childs Ave.
Uke ’n Reed
Uke ’n Reed, the pop-swing quartet, returns to the 510 Bistro at Bob Hart Square from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Dine, dance and have cocktails with songs so old they’re as good as new.
Merced Medical Center and the city of Merced will offer free Zumba classes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m every Monday and Wednesday starting Sept. 3. Classes will be held at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. For more information, call (209) 564-4310.
The city of Merced’s Recreation Department will be offering open dances from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7, Sept. 21, Oct. 5 and Oct. 19. This is not a dance lesson, but an opportunity for all dancers to come and practice their dance moves. Music will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite music to share. Open mic night
Singer Cheryl Lockett will be the featured artist at the American Legion’s open mic night, 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at 939 W. Main St. There is no cover charge. Lockett is scheduled to perform during the first hour. Other singers, musicians, poets and comedians are invited to take the mic afterward. A guitar amplifier and a PA system will be available. No need to be an American Legion member – just sign in at the front door. Tri-tip sandwiches with potato salad will be available at $6 a plate. Proceeds support veterans programs. NAMI family classes
Families and friends of those with mental illness are invited to attend “Family-to-Family,” a free 12-week class where families learn about mental illnesses and find support and strategies for helping themselves and their ill loved one move toward recovery. Scholarship Fund Dinner
The 36th Annual Clarence Borba Memorial Scholarship Fund Dinner will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the El Nido Fire Station. Dinner tickets are $15 each, which includes linguica, tri-tip, pork, lamb, turkey, beans, salad and a roll. All proceeds go to providing college scholarships. Tickets are available at the door.
