Multiple shots fired downtown Merced, man killed

One man was killed in a shooting reported Friday night near 18rhthe and I Street, Merced police reported.
At 10:35 p.m. on Friday, police officers responded to multiple shots fired at the intersection of I and 18th Street. A white male in his early forties was found laying in critical condition on the sidewalk. He was immediately taken away in an ambulance and rushed to Mercy Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Doug Avery was on the scene within minutes of the shooting, said Lt Matt Williams. According to witnesses, the victim and the perpetrator were involved in an argument, Williams said. After firing over half a dozen shots the gunman rode away on a bicycle, according to witnesses.
