A run that's earned about $6,000 for scholarships, cancer research and other causes will be resurrected after a year off, according to an organizer.

The Dustin Hobbs Memorial Run started after the teacher for which it's named died of leukemia at age 33. The sixth run is set for the top of Pacheco Pass at Pacheco State Park at 8 a.m. April 21.

Tim McNally, a social studies teacher, said Hobbs was a popular teacher among students.

"(Hobbs) is the only teacher at Los Banos High School that has a plaque to honor him," McNally said.

Each year, the proceeds are divided between two causes, one of which is a college scholarship that carries the Hobbs name.

The other cause changes each year. A foundation related to acute disseminated encephalomyelitis will benefit in 2013. A Los Banos Unified School District employee recently died of the neurological disorder.

Several course lengths and difficulty levels are planned: a quarter-mile course for children under 12, 1-mile walk-run, 3-mile jog and "brutal" 5-mile course, McNally said.

None of the courses are timed, McNally said, and between 300 and 500 have participated in past races.

The entry fee to run is $15 and free for children 12 and younger. Students participating will leave from Los Banos High School via bus at 7 a.m. Adults can follow the bus or meet at the park at 8.

Sign-ups will be available the day of the run, and state park fees have been waived, according to McNally. For more, contact McNally at (209) 826-6033 or email at tmcnally@losbanosusd.k12.ca.us.
