The body of a man who had been shot multiple times was discovered Monday morning in an almond orchard, Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin said.
Deputies received several 911 calls about 8:30 a.m. after workers saw the body of a man in an orchard near the intersection of Buchanan Hollow and Minturn roads. The man has not been identified,
The body had multiple gunshot wounds in the torso, Pazin said.
“Right now, we just have the very basic elements of the investigation,” Pazin said.
After receiving permission from the owner of the property, he said, deputies blocked off a section of the orchard.
Pazin said it appears the man was shot in the orchard. The man appears to be Latino and in his late 20s or early 30s, Pazin said.
An autopsy by the Merced County coroner was expected to happen late Monday, Pazin said.
