Merced’s Nickles earns all-state softball honors

The honors keep rolling in for Merced High star Madilyn Nickles. The Central California Conference MVP and Sun-Star Softball Player of the Year was selected to the second-team all-State underclass team as a multipurpose player by CalHiSports.

The Central California Conference MVP and Sun-Star Softball Player of the Year was selected to the second-team all-State underclass team as a multipurpose player by CalHiSports.

Nickles hit .417 this season with four home runs and 21 RBIs to help lead the Bears to a Central California Conference championship. The sophomore also compiled a 14-1 record as a pitcher with a 1.52 ERA.

Nickles was one of five Merced County softball players to earn all-state honors.

Pacheco’ landed two players on the all-state medium school team. Outfielder Adrianna Barton was named to the second team and pitcher Gia Rodoni was a second-team selection. Rodoni was also named to the underclass second team.

Rodoni was 8-3 with a 0.59 ERA for the Panthers. She struck out 157 hitters in 71 innings. Barton hit .590 and scored 25 runs.

Delhi pitcher Alyssa Stockton earned small school first team all-state honors as a multipurpose player. Hilmar’s Jazzlyn Ayala-Baca was named to the second team small school team as an infielder.

Stockton went 12-7 with a 1.46 ERA for the Hawks. She struck out 241 in just under 139 innings. The junior also hit .403 with 21 runs.

Ayala-Baca hit .545 with three home runs and 29 RBIs for the Yellowjackets.
