Ribbon-cutting ceremonies Saturday morning will officially open Merced's second Longs Drugs store.
Festivities involving Mayor Ellie Wooten, store employees and Merced City Council members are planned at noon for the 16,000-square-foot store at 1970 Yosemite Park Way.
Longs Drugs spokeswoman Phyllis Proffer said the store will be managed by George Ayala, a Longs employee for more than 22 years. About 35 part-time and full-time employees will staff the new store next to the Rancho San Miguel supermarket.
Proffer said the new store will offer customers a broad assortment of Hispanic merchandise to better reflect the needs and preferences of its customers, including Gamesa cookies, Jarritos beverages, candies, canned food, lard and cooking oil.
Saturday's ribbon-cutting will include games, prizes, free samples and a special grand opening sale. The store offers comprehensive services in pharmacy, wellness, beauty and convenience food areas.
Store hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Pharmacy hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
