A couple of Modestans channeled the spirits of Makaveli and the King of Pop between the dairy products and soda at a local market on Tuesday.
Tupac Shakur impersonator J.R. Wiggins, 31, and Michael Jackson impersonator Malachi Myles, 28, performed and greeted onlookers at El Tio Super Mercado, and will make several appearances today and Saturday.
Wiggins and Myles are longtime friends who parlayed their karaoke performances into impersonator gigs.
"I started off with karaoke, and then I took it a little bit further," Myles said. "I wanted to perform."
Never miss a local story.
Wiggins said pairing performances of the late artists promises to be a treat. "Tupac and Michael Jackson together is unheard of," Wiggins said.
The look-alikes come with the talent and styles of the men they are imitating, Wiggins said.
The impersonators can be found today at España's Southwest Bar and Grill, 1460 E. Pacheco Blvd., from 5 to 8 p.m. and 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. They will also perform during halftime of the Westside War at Loftin Stadium.
Saturday, the impersonators will be at the State Farm Insurance booth during the Downtown Fall Street Faire, and will play roles in the State Farm Insurance Summer Concert at Henry Miller Plaza.
