A burglary was reported Wednesday morning at a Seventh Street home in Atwater.
More than $1,000 of property was stolen, including a Dell computer, two wedding bands and debit cards, according to Lt. Sam Joseph of the Atwater Police Department.
The couple living in the home, both in their mid-70s, say they were taking their usual morning walk when a suspicious man approached them. He offered the couple a friendly greeting, asking them, "How are you doing today?"
The couple said they'd never seen him before, Joseph said.
Never miss a local story.
Shortly after, the couple received a call from their alarm company, reporting their home had been broken into. The burglar entered the home through a bathroom window.
"No matter how secure you feel, never feel too secure," Joseph said. "Be aware of your surroundings and notify law enforcement if you see anything suspicious."
The possible burglar is described as a clean-cut white man in his mid-20s, wearing a blue or dark grey T-shirt and tan cargo-style pants.
