The top high school baseball players in the area will be on display tonight at the Merced County All-Star Baseball Game.
The first pitched is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Merced College.
The South team will be comprised of players from Merced, Golden Valley, Dos Palos and Le Grand. The North will have players from Hilmar, Buhach Colony, Atwater, Livingston, Los Banos, Gustine and Mariposa.
Coaching the North is Merced’s Keith Petiti and Le Grand’s Todd Buchner, and coaching the South are Hilmar’s Justin Steelman and Mariposa’s Bruce Vegely, who is retiring after this season.
Players who are selected to their respective all-conference first or second teams are eligible to play in the game.
Twenty players from this game will be picked to represent Merced County in a game against Stanislaus County all-stars on June 21 at Merced College at 7 p.m.
Leading the South will be Dos Palos’ Efrain Del Rio, who was named the West Sierra League co-MVP after hitting .418 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs for the Broncos.
Del Rio will team up with Le Grand’s Carlo Del Real, who will be making his fourth appearance in this game. Del Real was named the Southern League MVP after hitting .507 for Le Grand this spring with 29 RBIs. He was also 7-2 with a 0.98 ERA on the mound.
The North will be led by Atwater ace Ryan Sanchez, who went 7-2 with a 1.48 ERA. Buhach Colony’s Kaden Verdin, Atwater’s Derek Molina, Los Banos’ Corbin Lilledahl and Mariposa’s Bodie Vegely are all players to watch from the North.
