A City of the Year award was given to Dos Palos by La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux.
The city was honored because of what the veterans organization says was outstanding work by American Legion Post 86. The award was accepted by Mayor Michael Burns and American Legion Post 86 Cmdr. Roy Hart in a ceremony in Los Angeles on July 17.
La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux, French for The Society of Forty Men and Eight Horses, is an organization that tries to ensure the well-being of veterans and thier families. It is closely associated with the American Legion. La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux started just after World War I and named after rail cars in Europe that were used to transport troops.
