McSwain school town hall meeting
Merced County Supervisor Daron McDaniel and other area officials will host a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the McSwain Union Elementary School gymnasium, 926 Scott Road in Merced. Free drought workshop in Merced

Open Cockpit Day at Castle
Castle Air Museum will celebrate Open Cockpit Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Dozens of vintage military aircraft will be open for viewing. Additionally, the event will feature law enforcement canine demonstrations, Cal Fire Merced County firefighters, classic rock music, as well as helicopter rides and other children’s activities. Adult admission is $14 per person, $8 for seniors; children ages 6 to 17 are $5. Children 5 and under and military members are free. The Livingston-Delhi VFW and Auxiliary plans a Memorial Day Service at 5 p.m. May 30 at Livingston Memorial Park, on the corner of Park and Main streets. Bobcat Young Writers Academy
The UC Merced Writing Project is hosting its seventh annual Bobcat Young Writers Academy from June 20 through June 30. The academy is for students entering first through eighth grades in the fall and will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the UC Merced campus. Registration is $215 for first child, $190 for each additional child in family. During the two weeks, students write daily, sharing, discussing, revising, and editing their writing with other young writers – all under the guidance of UC Merced Writing Project teacher consultants.
Merced’s Parks and Recreation Department offers summer swim lessons on Mondays through Thursdays in three sessions from June 6-16, June 20-30 and July 11-21 in the McNamara Park pool, 1040 Canal St. Cost is $10 and advance registration is required.
