‘Back 2 School’
The Salvation Army is hosting “Back 2 School” night from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the center, 1440 W 12th St., Merced. There will be face painting, entertainment, waterslides, balloon artists and free haircuts. Staff will serve food, drinks and more. The group will take donations for this benefit. For more, call Lt. A barbecued chicken dinner to go supporting the Yosemite Gateway Council of the Blind is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Center of Vision Enhancement, 1240 D St., Merced. Back to School
St. Anthony Elementary School is hosting a Back to School Night Ice Cream Social and school kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the hall, 1801 Winton Way, Atwater. Parents can take care of paperwork, buy uniforms, sign up to help with Parents Club events and buy school supplies. The preschool’s Back to School Night is 7 p.m. the following day. The monthly luncheon for Merced College Retired Women is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at La Hacienda 2, 3355 G St. The meal is a no-host luncheon.
The state Department of Fish and Wildlife stocked about 10,000 pounds of fish in Lake McSwain and in the Merced River just downstream from Lake McSwain in Merced County last week. The rainbow trout came from the Mojave Fish Hatchery in Victorville. A state fishing license is required for everyone 16 or older and each angler is allowed to catch five of these fish per day. The Merced Elks Lodge will hold a charity golf tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 17 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave., Atwater. Check-in time is 8 a.m., with lunch included. There will be raffle prizes, team prizes and closest-to-the-hole prizes. Cost is $75, which includes green fees and a cart. Proceeds are to benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
