The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce has launched a "Shop Merced" campaign to promote and support the local economy. Parenting classes offered
Sierra Vista Child and Family Services announced that they will be offering free Parenting Support/Education Classes and free Children's Workshops (for children ages 2-5). The classes will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. for six weeks, which began Tuesday, through Oct. 16. each Tuesday at 642 W. Writing teachers gather
Kindergarten through community college teachers are invited to the UC Merced Writing Project's 2007-2008 Saturday Outreach Series to learn more about best practices for teaching to the California State Writing Standards.
More than 100 teachers countywide have already taken part in previous SOS sessions. The first session in the new series will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Merced Tri-College Center, Community College Drive and G Street, Bldg TC-1. The Saturday Outreach Series will continue one Saturday a month through April 2008. Teachers can participate in any or all sessions, and parking is free. Costs $50. One unit for three Saturdays or two units for a minimum of six sessions are available at a reasonable price. Teachers are advised to contact their school administrators for more information.

'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'
The 1986 comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" will be shown at the historic Merced Theatre at 8 p.m. on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara and Jennifer Grey.
Ticket are $5 for either day and are available at the Theatre box office.
