This new column comes in the wake of my own personal “breaking news.” After nine incredible years as the North Valley reporter and weekend anchor for ABC30 (and 16 years in television news altogether), I am excited to now be the first public information officer and district development officer for the Merced City School District.
Two-year-old male giraffe, Potoka, was clearly excited about the warmer weather. He was captured on video running around the giraffe outdoor habitat at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago, Illinois. Potoka and the other reticulated giraffes are native to northeast Kenya in Africa, so the outdoor temperature at the zoo needs to be at least 45-50°F for them to be outside, say zoo officials. During the winter months, visitors can see the giraffes indoors.

In this interview with Peter Mondavi from 2014, the Napa Valley wine pioneer describes how from the beginning that he loved the wine business, "even with the ups and downs." At 98, Mondavi said he still stopped by the office every day. Mondavi died Monday, at 101-years-old.
