Flats, or heels? That is the question!
Up until last June, I would ask myself on a daily basis if I should wear heels or flats. I absolutely love the way heels can transform an outfit and make any casual ensemble look classy and chic. However, heels leave me aching with pain at the end of the day.
On the flip side, I love wearing flats because they are comfy and practical, but I used to feel frumpy and sloppy wearing them. I am sure I can’t be the only woman who struggles with this predicament, and I am here to tell you my opinion on the whole issue.
Like I said, I struggled with this up until last year, when I got a whole new outlook on flats and heels. I had reconstructive knee surgery last summer, and it turned out to be one of the hardest and slowest recoveries of my life. I now appreciate being able to walk in any type of shoe.
I used to be that girl who would wobble through the day just because I had really cute heels on, but now I only wear my heels for important meetings and then immediately switch into flats when those are over. I have come to realize that the pain is not worth getting a certain look with an outfit.
If you were to ask someone like my sister about what she would choose, her answer would be heels without taking a breath. Although I love her to death and respect her love for ridiculously high heels, I have to disagree. I say heels are great in theory, but I do not like the leg cramps at 3 a.m. that come with those high heels – free of charge to boot.
I’m sure most of you are thinking that it is hard to find cute flats that add to your outfit rather than take away from it – and you would be right. Over the last two years in the blogging world, however, I have found quite a few companies that make flats just as fashionable as high heels.
The first brand I came across was Yosi Samra. I was introduced to them at a fashion conference put on by Lucky Magazine last year and have not stopped obsessing over them since. I think they are reasonably priced and can even be fantastically priced if you catch one of their sales.
They have the cutest selection of flats, coming in almost every color and multiple styles. Another awesome thing about these flats is that they fold in half and fit into your purse perfectly. You can check Yosi Samra out at www.yosisamra.com.
The second brand I came across was Tieks. They specialize in ballet flats that come in multiple prints and colors. They are very stylish and go with almost any outfit. Tieks flats also fold in half and can fit in your purse. However, I must warn you they are quite expensive. You can check out Tieks at www.tieks.com.
The third brand I stumbled upon was SoleSociety. I had never heard of this brand until a couple of months ago, and I feel like I have been missing out. Their website is amazing! Their flats are adorable, affordable and come in a wide variety of styles. If you would like to check out SoleSociety, you can find them at www.solesociety.com.
If you are on the fence about whether you should wear heels or flats, do your feet a favor and pick whichever shoe is more comfortable.
To be honest, there are some outfits that I just can’t pair with flats. But I have learned that some outfits are just as cute with flats. I’m so glad to find there are flats out there that can fulfill my desire to look dressy and still be comfortable at the same time.
