    A travel survey by AAA estimates that just over 4 million Californians plan on traveling 50 miles or more this Memorial Day weekend. While that number is a slight decrease of just more than 2 percent from last year, that still means there will be some crowded freeways and airports.

  • After a one week hiatus, testimony resumed Monday in the murder trial of accused killers Maria Teresa Ceja Robles and Jose Augustine Velarde. The defendants are accused in the murder of Ana Lila Diaz DeCeja, 26, on Dec. 2, 2010, and the kidnapping of her 2-month-old son, Anthony Ceja.

  • More than a dozen jobs might be eliminated at Merced County's two landfills because of a decrease in waste tonnage, but some elected officials said they weren't made aware of the severity of the problem. "I'm not saying that there weren't any issues, but at the MCAG meetings they kept saying that tonnage was steady or at an increase," said Supervisor John Pedrozo.

  • The Los Banos Unified School District is preparing for a housing boom this summer. District officials have more than doubled school impact fees for developers planning residential projects in the coming months. The board of trustees recently voted to increase the fees from $3.23 per square foot to $7.35 per square foot.
