A woman died and two Winton residents suffered major injuries in a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in rural Merced County.
California Highway Patrol received responded to the collision near Walnut Avenue and Sultana Drive outside of Livingston just before 2 p.m., Officer Moises Onsurez said.
A 39-year-old Merced woman driving a 2002 Chevy Impala heading north at the intersection left the stop sign and collided with a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant driven by a woman. The Galant was pushed into oncoming traffic from the impact and collided head-on with a 2001 Dodge Dakota.
The woman in the Galant, which was registered to an owner in Winton, was pronounced dead at the scene by Riggs Ambulance, Onsurez said.
The two people in the Dakota, a Winton man and woman, both 52, suffered major injuries. The male driver was flown to a local hospital, and the woman was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
The woman driving the Impala, along with her 50-year-old male passenger, were not injured.
Walnut Avenue was closed temporarily while crews worked to clear the debris.
