Forty-year-old Christopher Hutchins was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m. at a gas station off Highway 41.
According to reports, deputies responded to a caller who claimed that a man was trying to hotwire a minivan parked at the gas station. When deputies arrived they found the unoccupied minivan, and a man, matching the caller's description, who was standing by another vehicle talking to a woman.
He claimed he had done nothing wrong, telling the deputy that he had been riding around Oakhurst with the owner of the van. When asked about the hotwire accusation, he denied it, saying, "I wouldn't stay around the scene of a crime that long."
Hutchins said he was on parole but not in trouble with the law. A records check showed he was wanted on a parole violation.
