Gabriel Avila, 18, was arrested at a home in the 1400 block of Hales Drive in Gustine. He was arrested on suspicion of several felony charges, including residential burglary, possession of narcotic prescription drugs and possession of burglary tools, police said, adding that he was also charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest. Joseph Aguiar Jr., 22, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary; the arrest occurred at his residence in the 600 block of Second Street in Gustine, police said.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Jesse Soto of Los Banos. Several witnesses reported seeing Soto shoot the victim before fleeing west on Canal Farm Lane. The victim was air-lifted to Modesto Memorial Hospital and released the same day. Los Banos Enterprise

Atwater police say Robert Fisher, 24, of Merced, was driving in the center left turn lane in the 2200 block of Avenue 2 when he struck a 47-year-old woman. The victim complained of pain but is expected to survive. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center Merced and treated. Fisher failed a field sobriety test, according to Detective Armando Echevarria. Fisher was booked at the Merced County Jail, where he remains in lieu of $100,000 bail.
