The Merced Business and Professional Women endorsed the following candidates for Merced City Council: Richard Cervantes, Tony Dossetti and Councilman Noah Lor. Councilwoman Michele Gabriault-Acosta is the endorsed candidate for Merced mayor.
Merced BPW sponsored a candidate forum in September but evaluated the entire individual when considering their choices, including the candidates’ community ties, community service, elective office experience and voting records, if there were any. The group also evaluated interviews in local publications, election materials, the candidates’ life and work experience and their demeanor and civility.
“We were tired of listening to complaints from the candidates blaming each other personally and the incumbents specifically, for the recession we are in and wanted to hear their positive ideas for helping the city survive through the tough economic times and work towards recovery,” said Mary Ward, President of the local BPW. “Unfortunately, not all of the candidates could do that.”
Merced BPW decided to return to the grassroots of the 87-year-old organization, which is personal empowerment and professional development through political advocacy, education and information.
Merced BPW doesn’t have a PAC at the local level so the endorsements are for educational purposes only. For information on Merced BPW, contact Mary Ward at MercedBPW@aol.com. --Sun-Star staff
