The Merced County District Attorney's Office confirmed Thursday it will not pursue charges against a man arrested early this month while driving in Merced's downtown with a gun in his car.
Joshua Fulgium, 30, will not face charges related to the June 4 arrest, according to the DA's office said.
Speaking to the Sun-Star this week, Fulgium said he was in legal possession of the firearm and denies he is a gang member, which was an accusation made by police.
Merced police stopped a car for a traffic violation in the 1900 block of Canal Street before 8 p.m. June 4. They found two men, Alejandro Gonzalez, 26, and Fulgium in the car, police reported. While searching the car, police said, they found a .380-caliber handgun and ammunition.

Gonzalez and Fulgium were arrested and booked into Merced County jail on suspicion of gang enhancements and being gang members in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Both men have since been released from custody.
