A report on crop conditions for Merced County for the week ending July 11 was released by the Merced County Agricultural Commissioner’s office.
Weed control spraying continues to be done on small grain fields, and wheat and oat harvests continue. The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay continues and the fifth cutting begins. Corn and beans continue to be planted, and the rye harvest continues.
Strawberry and apricot harvests are winding down, while fig and watermelon harvests continue. Bell pepper, cantaloupe, honeydew and tomato fields continue to be planted. Squash, tomato and parsley harvests continue.
Pasture and range conditions are good, with supplemental feeding of hay and nutrients to livestock continuing.-- Carol Reiter
