A motorcyclist suffered major injuries after a series of collisions on Highway 99 in Merced Saturday night, according to California Highway Patrol.
A male motorcyclist was riding north in the slow lane of Highway 99 at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday when he reported seeing an object in the middle of the road, CHP Merced Sgt. Steven Lewis said.
The motorcylist tried to avoid the object and swerved into a GMC Yukon driving north in the fast lane, Lewis said.. The motorcycle sideswiped the Yukon and the rider was ejected, falling in the fast lane while the motorcycle continued into the shoulder.
The driver of a Mercury Villager behind the collision noticed the motorcyclist on the ground in the middle of the lane and stopped before running over the motorcyclist, Lewis said. However, a Toyota Tacoma behind the Villager couldn't stop in time and slammed into the Villager, pushing the Villager over the motorcyclist.

Lewis said the driver, whose age and place of residence wasn't released late Saturday, was airlifted to a Modesto trauma center.
There were no injuries to the other drivers, Lewis said. No arrests or citations were made at the scene.
It wasn't immediately clear what object in the road caused the motorcyclist to swerve, Lewis said. The collision was under investigation Saturday night.
