Several people and organizations who have worked to preserve and maintain Merced County history will be honored Sunday with awards and grants by the Merced County Historical Society.
Here's a list of honors that will be presented at the Historical Society's public, annual membership meeting at 2 p.m. in the Merced County Board of Supervisors' Chamber, according to a news release.
- The 2018 Rossotti Captial Improvement Grant to the Snelling Community Building Foundation Inc. for its Snelling Courthouse renovation
- The 2017 Letus Wallace award to Vince Griffiths and LeRoy Oliver for contributions to the Old Courthouse and opening of Courthouse Museum in the late 1970s, 1980s
- The 2017 Heacox Pioneer History award to Richard Mahacek for development of the Merced County 4-H display and participation in "Agricultural Centennial" exhibit
- 2017 Docent of the Year award to Courthouse Museum volunteer Karen Chastain for her 20 years of service to the museum
In addition to the awards, Ron Genini, an award-winning historian, author and retired Fresno Central High School history teacher, is expected to give a keynote speech, according to the release.

Board of Directors officers Ann Carson of Snelling, Carlene Cunningham of Le Grand, Kent Roberts of Merced and Bud Wallace of Planada will be presented for approval at the meeting, the release states.
Also being sworn in are President Charlie Galatro, President Elect Neil Morse, Vice President Mike Bik, Treasurer Grey Roberts and Secretary Patti Kishi.
