Merced High School and Club Mercedes have announced their sixth annual canned food drive.
Donations at Merced High School will be accepted in the student body office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 18.
Club Mercedes, a nonprofit service organization for adults in Merced, will accept food or cash donations from the public between Nov. 23 and Dec. 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each weekday.
Last year, more than 5,000 cans were donated at Merced High School.
Never miss a local story.
This is the first year the high school students have partnered with students at UC Merced, who run a club called Operation Feed the Need and will also accept donations.
The groups hope to provide food baskets for 50 local families this holiday season. Baskets include about $30-50 worth of food, depending on the size of the family.
Each of the fundraising groups will meet Dec. 17-20 to package the baskets and distribute them to needy families. To help package or distribute, RSVP with Club Mercedes at (209) 383-9906.
