An early-morning house fire on the 4000 block of Highway 140 in the Atwater area was contained to the attic of the 4,400-square-foot-home.
No injuries were reported. The fire was reported just after 5:30 a.m. Firefighters are crediting smoke detectors for the early detection of the blaze.
A total of 28 firefighters, six engines, two water tenders and four chief officers responded to the call. Early detection from the home's smoke detectors allowed the residents to call for help while the fire was still in its early stages, according to Cal Fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
