A weak weather system is expected to bring snow to the mountains and rain to the Central Valley.
Less than one-quarter of an inch of rain is forecast from the storm expected to hit California later today.
"Clouds are coming in," said National Weather Service meteorologist George Cline. "But the significant rain probably won't occur before this afternoon or tonight."
Then, on Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers.
High temperatures will be in the mid-50s in the Merced region.
