Riggs Ambulance Service said it donated four automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Atwater Police Department for use in case of sudden cardiac arrest.
Greg Petersen, operations supervisor and education coordinator for Riggs, will train the Atwater Police Department on the safe use of the AED.
In 2009, Riggs said it responded to about 33 cases of cardiac arrest in Atwater. Now, trained responders like the Atwater Police Department can help provide early defibrillation to people in the community who need it, the company said in a news release.
The Atwater donation marks the seventh donation of AEDs Riggs has provided to Merced County.
