No one was hurt Monday in a speedboat accident at Lake Yosemite, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. and all six people on the boat were rescued safely, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff’s spokesman.
The boat was carrying two males and four females and had been on the water for about 15 minutes prior to the accident. It had reached speeds of about 35 mph when it struck an unknown hard object in the water.
The boat began taking on water. Sgt. Rich Howard commandeered a boat and responded to the scene. Howard rescued the six people, all of whom were wearing flotation devices, MacKenzie said.
