Fair officials said they've uncovered information of a prehistoric nature that ties in with its theme, “Wetlands, Water and Wildlife.” Madera County’s landfill is the site of a massive fossil bed – the Fairmead Fossils – including mammoths, sabertoothed cats, camels, giant sloths, miniature antelopes. These ancient critters lived more than a half million years ago, and you can find out about them at The San Joaquin Valley’s Paleontology Foundation exhibit in the fairgrounds’ Ag Exhibits Building.
