The North Valley Patriots said they will host former Sheriff Richard Mack of Graham County, Ariz., on Saturday in Denair.
The North Valley Patriots consist of tea party groups from Modesto, Turlock, Los Banos and Merced. Their main purpose is to enhance the efforts of the Tea Party Patriots national organization, they said in a news release.
Mack gained notoriety when he challenged the Brady Bill, a gun control measure. His court case reached the U.S. Supreme Court, according to the news release.
The meeting will be held 3 to 5 p.m. at the Larsa Banquet Hall, 2107 E. Monte Vista Avenue in Denair.
Organizers said Mack's message is to citizens, but especially those who have taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. The news release called the event an educational opportunity to learn the role, responsibilities and power of the local sheriff.
"We adhere to advancing the founding organization's mission to hold lawmakers fiscally accountable, stand for strict compliance to the Constitution to limit government and support the free market," the group said in its news release.
