The California Department of Veterans Affairs said it will hold its third annual CalVet Women Veterans Conference Oct. 7-8 at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building in Clovis.
The state agency said its conference committee is planning the program and is seeking donations for the conference. "Your donation will help to ensure another successful event designed to educate our women veterans about their benefits and healthcare," the agency said in a news release.
The department said its mission is to serve veterans and their families. California has 2.1 million veterans, and more than 167,000 of them are female. The annual conference is an outreach effort to help meet the needs of women veterans, the news release said.
The conference will again recognize a woman veteran of the year from Northern and Southern California at a special banquet dinner. Its goals are to increase awareness of veterans benefits; facilitate access to health care services; discuss gender-specific medical conditions that affect women veterans; provide updates on women veteran research projects; and provide employment and educational opportunities.
Never miss a local story.
The department said it needs donations to make the conference affordable for female veterans.
