With all the bad news out there these days, it's easy to forget that people are still doing nice things for each other all the time.
One such person is Melba. Melba read a story I wrote that ran in Saturday's paper about local folks who've been laid off. On Monday, she showed up at the Sun-Star's front desk, asked for me, and then handed me a $500 cashier's check made out to one of the laid-off workers profiled in the story. She asked me to pass it on to him, which I did this morning.
Never miss a local story.
"I'm not rich but I'm doing OK, and a lot of other people aren't," Melba told me. "So I thought I'd try to help."
