By now, you know that a couple hundred people gathered on Merced College's football field Saturday to spell out "Google" in an attempt to convince the Internet giant to select Merced as a test site in its ultra-high-speed Internet case. If you haven't seen the photos, click here for the gallery.
But there's more happening on the Google front.
Dave Truax, the city of Merced's IT guy, posted this new version of a video plea to Google, after an earlier draft version was panned by the Sun-Star's Loose Lips column last week.
And there's word from Jennifer Krumm at the Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce that KMPH Channel 26 plans to host some sort of competitive event on Wednesday pitting Merced's Google efforts against Fresno's. She told members of the booster group Merced Ahead that a reporter asked her to "round up" as many people as she could to attend the event, from 5 to 10 a.m. at Blackbeard's Family Entertainment Center in Fresno.
