Two arrests have been made in the home invasion and beating of a 56-year-old Atwater woman.

Suspects Joey Edward Cardoza, 34, and Kimberly Suzanne Grace, 31, were arrested by Atwater police Thursday at Cardoza's residence in the 2500 block of Brownell Street after a lengthy investigation into the

April 27 home invasion, according to Detective Armando Echevarria.

Grace's image was captured on an ATM surveillance camera, and police learned she had been dating Cardoza. In addition, Cardoza had previously been convicted of burglarizing the same victim in 2007. Investigators suspected the motive for the April home invasion may have been retaliation for the 2007 arrest.

Police believe the couple entered the victim's home in the 2300 block of Fay Drive at 3 a.m. April 27 and ordered her to the ground, where she was bound and beaten. They left in the victim's silver 2005 Buick Rainier.

After questioning the suspects, Atwater police found the victim's car in a Turlock shopping center parking lot. Police also obtained surveillance footage of Cardoza leaving the car.

Cardoza and Grace were booked at the Merced County Jail on suspicion of home-invasion robbery, burglary, vehicle theft and aggravated assault.
