Like any good movie about the undead, Merced's Zombie Walk is getting a sequel.
Plans are being made now for the second Zombie Walk, scheduled from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Spirit Halloween Store (in the old Circuit City building on R Street).
Last year, hundreds of zombies, wearing ragged clothes and covered in fake blood and prosthetic makeup, lurched down on Main Street and ending the night with a concert at a downtown bar. (View our photo gallery.)
Taking a page from movies such as "Dawn of the Dead," this year's event is moving out of downtown and into a retail environment. The ghouls will take over the Spirit Halloween Store at 3275 R Street for a "zombie carnival," which includes such events as a zombie dunk tank, a zombie kissing booth, and face painting. There'll also be a costume contest and the crowning of Miss Zombie Merced. For the boo-ty pageant, 12 female zombies will be photographed and featured in the "Miss Gor'geous Merced" 2012 calendar. A concert at the event includes appropriately named bands such as "Bloodshot and Dilated," "Crypt Keeper," "Drive In Ghouls" and "Neverland Ranch Hands."
Admission to the Zombie Walk is free. Proceeds generated from the raffle and sales of the calendar will be donated to Valley Children's Hospital.
