An early morning fire Sunday caused $30,000 loss in structural damage in an abandoned single-family dwelling, according to Merced Fire Department officials.
No one was hurt. Officials had reports of people inside the structure at 329 R Street, possible transients, according to Battalion Chief Donald Roe with the city fire department.
It was all clear, everybody was out, he said.
“This is the third time this structure has burned over the last couple of years,” Roe said. “\[It’s\] still standing.”
There were no injuries. A total of four engines, a truck and a battalion chief were dispatched to the scene. The dwelling is 1,100 square feet. The fire burned one of the back utility rooms in the house. Most of the damage was in the rear utility/laundry room, Roe said.
