Merced County Association of Governments, on behalf of the Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority, will hold public recycling information workshops on the mandatory commercial recycling measure that will go in effect statewide next year.
In 2012, commercial businesses, multifamily complexes and public entities that generate four or more cubic yards of trash a week will be required to implement recycling programs. According to the California Department of Recycling Resources and Recovery (CalRecycle), the commercial sector is responsible for at least
68 percent of all trash disposed of in California, with much of it being potentially recyclable material.
The countywide workshops will include a presentation outlining the proposed regulation and how those affected can implement a recycling program. Questions from the public will be addressed throughout the workshop.
