A parolee was arrested after he was observed entering an abandoned house in Winton by a Merced County sheriff's deputy. Sacsha Schneider, 34, told deputy Eric Nelson that he was homeless and looking for a place to spend the night. He parked in the driveway of the home in the 6000 block of Olive Avenue, where Nelson later saw him leave the house and get into the truck to drive away. Nelson saw several pieces of rusted machinery in Schneider's truck. Schneider said he took the metal from the home, hoping to sell it to a recycling company for a few dollars.
Schneider, who is on parole and had a felony warrant for narcotics charges and a misdemeanor warrant for marijuana, was booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property. His bail is $52,000.
