The League of Women Voters of Merced County will hold its 2011-12 opening meeting Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Merced City Council Chambers.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will host a panel discussion about the federal government's role in early childhood education. Panelists include Brian Mimura, executive director of First 5 Merced, Gay Riggs, MCOE assistant superintendent, and Steven Tietjen, superintendent of the Los Banos Unified School District. The discussion will be moderated by Tammy Moss-Chandler, director of Merced County's public health department.
The League of Women Voters is a national nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government.
