The Mariposa County Department of Public Works and the Mariposa SPCA will sponsor a Trash To Treasure Recycled Craft Fair Oct. 29. The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Arts Park in downtown Mariposa. Admission is free.
All items sold or displayed at the fair have been made mainly from repurposed materials that might otherwise have ended up in the landfill. Shoppers can choose from an assortment of unusual pieces. Works by scrap metal sculptors Scott McGrath and Lorna Pollock will also be on display.
Visitors can make their own recycled crafts and get tips for reducing waste during the holidays at the Public Works booth, while volunteers will help people create a lawn ornament or bird bath from old glassware at the SPCA booth (a $5 donation is requested). Free raffle prizes will also be given away throughout the day, and visitors can vote for their favorite crafts to win "People's Choice" awards.
Local musical artists Rhed Leonard, Keith Johnson and Mike Brenner — known as "Azurvida" — will perform mostly original songs, with some select covers in many genres.
Never miss a local story.
Between sets, storyteller Tammy Bird will present a fanciful puppet show.
