WINTON -- A 13-year-old girl was killed Monday night in Winton when she ran onto the road and was hit by an oncoming car.
The girl, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her family, was running northeast along Winton Way, south of Bridget Court at about 7:30 p.m. when she ran out into the roadway and was struck by a 2009 Nissan Altima, driven by 25-year-old Samantha Miller, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The right front of the car hit the girl, who was thrown in a northeasterly direction and landed along the curb north of Bridget Court, according to the CHP.
Miller pulled her car over and waited at the scene as emergency personnel arrived, according to the CHP. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither Miller nor her 7-year-old passenger claimed to be injured, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident, according to the CHP. No arrests were made.
