ATWATER -- A 48-year-old Atwater man died Wednesday after running his truck off the road and crashing into a power pole.
The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification to his family, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup west on Atwater Jordan Road, west of Giannini Road, at an unknown speed around 3:15 p.m. when he drove onto the north dirt shoulder and hit a garbage can, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The truck then traveled across Atwater Jordan Road onto the south dirt shoulder and the right front of the Chevrolet hit a wooden power pole and overturned, according to the CHP.
When the truck began to overturn, the driver, who wasn't wearing his seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle, according to the CHP.

The driver suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. The crash is still under investigation and it's unknown whether the driver was under the influence.
