A taxi scrip program launched by Merced County Transit/The Bus in Atwater and Winton now lets seniors age 65 and older and riders who meet the definition of disabled under the ADA buy higher-value booklets of scrip.
The booklets are valued at $40 for 8, $80 for 16 or $120 for 24. Scrip is used like cash to pay for taxi cab fares. "Previously, riders were limited to $40 scrip a month," Rod Ghearing, transit manager for TheBus, said in a news release. "Due to the high demand from those that have used the service, we have increased the amount to $120."
The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For residents in Atwater or Winton who would like to register for the Taxi Scrip Program, contact (209) 726-2729.
