Merced College will stage its annual Siege Weapons Competition Nov. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the practice soccer fields next to Tri-College Center.
Each year, professor Lana Jordan's Physics 4A and 4B students participate in the competition. The students build full-scale trebuchets, or catapults, which must launch a basketball 15 meters. This is done for a grade.
The construction of the trebuchets must not use elastic, springs, chemical reactions or electricity. There’s a $100 limit for materials. The event draws about 100 participants and observers. For more information, call the Merced College Public Affairs office at (209) 381-6470.
