Representatives from the California National Guard (CNG) headquarters will join Dollar General Saturday at their 10,000th store opening in Merced.
Dollar General has been partnered with the CNG in employing out-of-work veterans, soldiers and airmen through the CNG's Work for Warriors employment initiative. The program launched Thursday from the state capitol during a press conference hosted by Assembly Speaker John Perez and several business and employer representatives, including Dollar General.
The program's aim is to reduce unemployment and underemployment in the California Guard by 25 percent over the next 12 months by putting out-of-work guardsmen directly into contact with employers seeking capable, professional employees the guard can provide, according to a news release.
National Guard soldiers and officers will speak at the Dollar General event and be available throughout the day to speak about unemployment in the National Guard and the challenges in finding work for soldiers and airmen returning from combat,
