No major injuries were reported Thursday afternoon after a car crashed through the front of a popular Merced bagel shop.
The incident was reported around 1:45 p.m. at Bagel Tyme at 3040 Park Avenue. Sgt. Curt Gorman said the driver, a 64-year-old woman, suffered a possible medical issue and drove a Lincoln up the asphalt handicap ramp directly into the store.
One customer, a 52-year-old man, was taken to the hospital by ambulance for minor injuries. "I'm so sorry!," the driver said to the injured man, as paramedics rolled him into the ambulance.
Gorman said the victim mostly had minor cuts and scrapes.
The car was traveling at an extremely slow rate of speed, Gorman said, and employees in the store told police they saw the car approaching. The front door of the business was completely taken out, and shattered glass was strewn throughout the business.
A female passenger who was inside the Lincoln wasn't hurt.
Gorman said DUI was not a factor in the crash, and the driver will not face charges.
